The problem is one of stagnation.
Here's a little history:
I left Arcata, CA for art school in '03. I dropped out in '04. At the end of november I took a bunch of hippies and me in my car for a crazy road trip of unknown destinations or intentions. A month later my car broke down.
All through '05 I was on the road. I went to a rainbow gathering, I lived on the streets of asheville and played fiddle for cash. I went to shows, I played a music festival, I got a dishwashing job (while houseless), then quit to help with hurricane relief then go on tour with Widespread Panic.
by '06 I was back in Arcata. I got a job again, quit again, and joined a group of traveling musicians hitchhiking all over the country. More rainbow gatherings. Waffle House all-nighters. Fell in and out of love. The group broke up. '07 was more of the same, until finally up in Oregon that fall I'd had enough.
in '08 I helped start another band. I put every ounce of my mojo into that project, and it started to do well, even make some money. I did odd jobs on the side and sold some paintings. The band died out at the end of summer. Since then, I've been biding my time, I have some interesting ideas but I've been isolated from other artists, and jaded by my past experiences.
Now it's '09 and a whole year stares me down, challenging me to live up to my true potential. a lot of my friends are complacent. It is hard to find motivation to do things. It is easy to fall into the traps of distraction and stagnation. I have led an extremely exciting life up until this point, and I need to take a step forward. I've done tour, lived on the road, lived in the woods, sang a thousand songs on streetcorners.
the bottom line?
I need a new challenge!!!
much love, as always,
Sierra
